Some frequently asked questions about dogs in Middelkerke and Westende
Can I walk my dog on the beach?
In the period between 16 September and 14 June you can walk your dog on the beach. The dog must be kept on a leash. Any excrement of the dog must be cleaned up by the attendant.
In the summer, between 15 June and 15 September, it is forbidden to walk with your dog on the beach, except in 3 specific zones
On the strip of the guarded zone near the avenue Louis Logier, from the beachhead west of the sports beach. Dogs must be kept on a leash not exceeding 10 metres.
O the strip from the beachhead east of the guarded area 'Carlton' (at the height of the extension of the Sluisvaartstraat) and further in an easterly direction to the municipal boundary with Ostend. Dogs are allowed to run free.
On the strip from the beachhead west of the guarded area 'Cristal Palace' (at the height of the Idyllelaan) and further in western direction to the border with Stad Nieuwpoort. Dogs must be kept on a leash of maximum 10 metres.
Can I take my dog into the park?
Yes, this is allowed if accompanied by a leash and a dog poop bag.
Unique in Middelkerke and Westende: dog toilets
In Middelkerke and Westende, dog toilets (dog waste tubes) are provided that are cleaned and disinfected daily. This is a unique pilot project. Ask for more information at our reception
